Therapeutic Dominos

Every time I make it home I try to visit my grandparents
they live about an hour from my home so it is
pretty convenient. On my most recent trip they introduced
me to their latest hobby. They have started visiting a local
senior citizen center and the friends they have made there
play Mexican Train . This is a version of Dominos. We
spent hours playing this game and enjoying each others
company.

This is good for them because my granddad was
diagnosed with an idiopathic lung disorder.
He has to have oxygen at all times and gets tired
more easily then he used to. He has been part
of a research study  and taking new medications
however, he has recently gotten more
sick and has been referred to Duke University Hospital.

Here he will be evaluated for a lung transplant. They are
both anxious about the evaluation process and are in
need of prayer during this challenging time!

Scoliosis

While cleaning out my desk during my down time before
starting the summer semester I came across an old
x-ray taken during 9th grade. I cheered and competed in
gymnastics throughout my childhood. During those years
I often experienced severe back pain and fatigue.

During a routine school exam I was told I had Scoliosis
this was in 5th grade. The pain didn't start until I was
older as the pain continued I saw doctors and was referred
to a specialist in Birmingham. I was fitted for a back brace
and wore it most nights. It was uncomfortable, but I didn't
have to wear it very long.

Scoloiosis is the curving of the spine away from the midline.
It is more common in girls and worsens during growth spurts.

Today the pain is gone but I am self conscious about my
shoulders which are not as uneven as the photo above but
there is a visible difference. The cause of this abnormality
is unknown but my brother has a much milder form as well.

Summer

So far I have very much enjoyed my summer vacation.
I have not done much to speak of mostly stayed by the
pool and played with my pup Molly. Brad was home
for the first weekend, but he had to go back to T-town
for a  May class. And only a few of my friends are coming
home for the summer.

Yesterday when I woke up I went outside to feed Molly
breakfast and let her roam a little while.  I noticed
a baby snake in our pool! Yuck! My heart rate hit the
roof and I didn't know what to do. I went in the garage
and found some of my brother's old work boots and
then grabbed a hoe.

I was so nervous. I watched it for a
moment before taking my first attempt at killing the horrible
thing. Yes, I know some snakes are not poisonous but I
can't tell the difference and I'd rather not have any around.
I missed the first time and ran in the other direction. It must have
been a funny sight now that I think about it. The whole time I
was praying out loud. Ha! The snake swam away but then came
back to the steps. The second time was a success and I got rid
of the thing as soon as I calmed down. Meanwhile Molly was
uninterested in the fact that my life was in danger!! She was
running through the sprinklers and trying to get a baseball from
off the garage shelf. Talk about a guard dog.

Friday

Friday fun day i finished my third pharmacology
assignment this morning got a shower and watched
Hoda and Kathie lee. Great start to the day!! Then
I went to Books a Million and searched for an NCLEX
book to practice on some test taking skills.
Apparently no one out of 112 nursing students
answered any of the 4 select all that apply questions
on our last OB test. Bummer. There were like 12 so I
couldn't pick one and because they are $50 a book
i decided to do a little more research before I bought
one. Then I stopped by the cook book section and was
in food heaven for like 10 min and then made myself leave the
store before I bought a cook book. Like there is time to play
with food right now... I can't wait to be out of school.
Yes I know stop wishing your life away.

After Books and I went to Publix.
I usually go to Walmart on Lakeshore but not anymore
I am proud to say I am a new convert. Sabrina has
been trying to get me to shop at Publix since last summer
and I was uncertain but they are so friendly, there prices are
about the same, and they have a much better selection of produce then
Walmart. I got some yummy foods and have been reading
for OB ever since.

Valentines day was so great we had a Pharm test on
Wednesday. After the test Brad and I went out to eat .
We ate at The Melting Pot.Oh man! Okay so it was
way more expensive then food should be, but every bite was
so delicious! It's hard to explain but its
a fondue place and  there is a burner built into the table
and they bring out bite size portions of every course. Then we
put the food on the skewers and it cooked while we talked.
 So neat. And so tasty!

I can see the light

I am so relieved to report that i have only
3 assignments left in the semester. Yes that is
right the 1st semester if this program is almost over.
Can you see my enthusiasm. Thanksgiving was good
I got to see some family i hadn't seen in a long time.

Also we got new phones because alltel is now part
of AT&T so i have been using the camera on my phone
more often then my camera. I have an addiction to
Facebook i think i should probably take some time
away from it over the break. I got up at 5:30 to
finish an assignment then i drifted to Facebook
and look where i ended up i should be back in bed
but now oatmeal is calling my name.
Have a good day here are some random pictures
from my cell phone.

Inspiration

So i got back around 8 pm last night and i was
content with the fact that my roommate and not other
random people were in my room. So it was very peaceful
unloading my clothes and putting up grocerys. My
Dad had grown a huge watermelon that he let me bring
back to school with me so i opened the refrigerator to
find some room for it and there were pizza boxes
everywhere. I opened them to see if any boxes
could be combined to make more room and when i
did every piece of pizza had been bitten off of an there were
like 4 pieces in each box. What the heck?!

I thought girls were the tidy ones and the boys were
slobs. Well i never saw my roommate the rest of the night and
went to bed around ten. I thought to myself i bet ill hear from her
sometime tonight...sure enough at 2 am her and two other
people came in from some club. I guess she never made it to
class this morning.

Anyway i say all of that to say i have been looking for some fun
and cheap decor to put in the common room when Kimi
moves out on the 5th. I went to Walmart and i am really
needing some good prices but i didn't see anything there.
Here are some dream room ideas.

We have a square table like this in our common room
but i really like the patterned curtains maybe i can find a bargain

Love the patterned chair and that the pillows on the sofa aren't to matchy matchy
with everything else in the room

What do you use to decorate a kitchen i am low on space but it is so plain

The similarity here is that the room is very multi functional
there is a sofa a chair a media table a coffee table and a dinner
table with four chairs

Simple color palate i may actually be able to do this art.

Beautiful Distractions

This weekend has flown by i have really tried to be
productive i really really have. Honest. But the
fact that it is now officially May and i know how
little i have left of spring semester i seem to be getting
distracted by the smallest things.... TV (which i
usually don't have time to watch or any want to),
Making breakfast with my brother (and cutting
myself with a really sharp knife), Looking at
new summer trends on J Crew it is so sad how short
my attention span can get. I have two tests this week and two
next week then i work a full week and then its off to the
Grand Canyon!

I found out my roommates name and that i will be on
the first floor I'm excited about that except that i was looking
forward to what little extra exercise i could have gotten
from walking up several flights of stairs to get to my room
every night. Also i finally got my "Be Hot" vitamins today i am
super pumped but I'm not going to start taking them until after
the GC trip because other than running i probably won't be
getting much exercise.

Brandon went to this spectacular wedding this weekend
i absolutely cannot wait until my friends start getting married
i know they will have the best weddings ever. But until then
Say Yes to the Dress will have to suffice.

No pictures from this weekend so here are some borrowed images:
